Olympics 2012
Well done to both Will Hardy, currently swimming with Gosforth Dolphins and Eleni Papadopoulos, one of our past swimmers now training where she is studying at Manchester University.
Both these swimmers have been nominated and selected to carry the Olymic Torch through Newcastle on 15th July 2012. They both realise that they are very privileged to have this honour bestowed upon them and I can assure you that both are very humbled by such an honour and very proud too. Both are very deserved cases for their selection, both having and continue to acheive so much in their chosen sport of swimming. Very much one of the most demanding training sports there is.
Eleni has recently competed in the British Championships at the Olympic pool gaining Gold in the 100fly event (S10) in the process smashing two British records in the same event (50 split time).
Will, having just returned from a very exhausting wekkend swiming at this years DSE Youth Championship where he mustered no fewer tthan 5 medals, 3 of which were Gold (s6), no British or Championship records for Will, but PB's in all events.
Keep checking the Olympic website to see which stage Will and Eleni will completing and get yourself along to cheer them on.
Another National Success hailing from Gosforth Dolphins
Congratulations go to a swimmers who started out many years ago at Gosforth!
Eleni Papadopoulos and elder brother John swam with us over 10 years ago both competeing in the Nationally renowned Speedo Junior League. John still swims with University but not regularly competeing.
Eleni now 19yrs old suffered a nasty break and to her arm which she never fully recovered from, rendering her disabled. However this did not deter her from continuing in her chosen sport of swimming, in the main within Disability Meet events.
She has swam competetvely representing no less than Team GB, in many parts of the world.
Her recent success was a little closer to home in the Stockport Grade 1 meet at the weekend, 19/11-20/11, competing in 8 events. During which she acheived no less than 7 PB's but the following events she smashed two British records.

We are always very proud of our past swimmers acheivments but its more pleasing when they continue to acheive in swimming. WHO'S GOING TO BE NEXT????
Hooray................. Gosforth Pool is now re-opened Monday 25th July 2011
Great news, the pool at Gosforth is now open and ready for our first night back on our home ground.
You will notice quite a few changes when you enter the building which continues through to the changing rooms then on to poolside, all appear to be for the better. What you wont see is the most expensive part of the work that has been undertaken and that is down under, in the boiler room where major work on the air and water filters has been made. Fingers crossed the LONG LONG wait has been worth it and we continue to enjoy the family and friendly surrounds that were in place before the pool closure.

Will narrowly missed out on making it a treble, gaining silver in the 50fc. All times were PB's.
